When You Feel Paralyzed by Fear

You’ll hear time and again from successful people that if they’d comprehended how truly unprepared they were for the journeys they were attempting, the fear would’ve paralyzed them and they’d have never been brave enough to begin.

“I did have one element necessary to all early creativity; naïveté, that fabulous quality that keeps you from knowing just have unsuited you are for what you are about to do.”

Steve Martin’s “Born Standing Up: A Comic’s Life”

I want to be the kind of counselor that inspires kids to dream big and help them create a plan to reach their goals. I don’t want them to know how unsuited they are for the task. I want to help them harness the strength that will make them ready for the work ahead.

Could offering hope, compassion, and unconditional positive regard be enough to make someone feel worthy enough to commit themselves to a truly ambitious goal?

I guess we’ll find out.

“Never tell a young person that something cannot be done. God may have been waiting centuries for someone ignorant enough of the impossible to do that very thing.”
